Are you a Poet but don't know it

Cats are such beautiful, elegant and enchanting creatures, which is why artists have drawn them, storytellers have written about them and poets spoke verses about them over the centuries.

We would love to here any poems that you have written. You can submit your poems using the e-mail at the bottom of this page .

Emma

I met a little kitty

Whose leg was hurting so

Her Mommy didn’t seem to care

Why, I do not know!

The Shelter couldn’t help her

I had to do something fast

I knew this precious kitten

For too long would not last

So back to her house I went

Heart beating like a drum

To find this little sweetie

A good new Mommy and home

I looked and looked but could not find

Oh where, oh where could she be?

And just as I turned away to leave

She was there -- and didn’t run from me.

She looked at me as it to ask

“Will you take me away from here?

I’m hungry, my leg is broke,

and I fear that death is near.”

I scooped her up and held her close

Careful for the leg!

To my waiting car we ran so fast

Please help us God, I begged.

I stopped to give her food and drink

She licked my hand in thanks

She cried all the way in the carrier

Can you blame her, I can’t!

Straight to the vet we went

The worms! The fleas! The mats!

All were gone as quick as they came

But the leg -- would it get a cast?

The vet and the surgeon

The x-ray did study

They saw that the bone

Was fusing already by Emma’s body!

So off to my house we went,

No hospital stay was had

Cosmo, he was happy

Katy - sad, bad and mad!

Emma could have been bitter

About her life thus far

But joy she exuded

A bright light, a shining star

Next we saw my Dr. Bill

Who kissed and hugged my kitty

He prescribed more medicines, some natural

Emma’s leg bone pain to kill.

We had but a month

Emma and me

I could not keep her

What with Cosmo and Katy

So I called my friend Cindy

And told her our story

She said right away

“I’ll take her,” don’t worry!”

Off to Manton we drove

All day long, as a matter of fact.

With me at the wheel,

Emma in her playpen in the back

Scott and Cindy have a ranch

So beautiful it was

With horses and dogs and birds...

A pool and geese - just because!

We stayed the night, Emma and me

After a day so hard we had

And as she slept on my chest

We were together, peaceful and glad

We hugged goodbye and I cried

When it was finally time to part

Such a beautiful gift God had given to me

Emma dear, you will always be in my heart.
