Ringworm

Ringworm
Ringworm is a contagious skin condition caused by fungus. Cats may catch this infection from other cats, rats, mice or hedgehogs. They can also be infected by objects haboring the spores.

Signs of Ringworm
Small circular scaly bald patches may be a sign of ringworm. Most commonly infected areas are the head, ears, forelegs or paws. In some cases, cats will show no symptoms at all.

Treatment
If you suspect your cat has ringworm take it to your local vets immediately. A diagnosis can be made using a ultra-violet wood light or microscopic examination of sample hairs. Treatments may consist of shampoos or tablets. A course of griseofulvin, an anti-fungal drug, may be required.

Ringworm and Humans
Ringworm is contagious both to other animals and humans. Children are more at risk due to their delicate skin. Look out for circular red patches on the skin, particularly around the hands or arms. If you are anyone living in your household show these symptoms contact your doctor at once.
