Name: Iberian Lynx (Lynx pardinus) – Medium Cat

Size: Male Average – 12.8 kg and Females Average – 9.3 kg

Distribution: The Iberian Lynx can be found in mediterranean scrubland and woodland in isolated areas of Spain and Portugal. It is considered to be the world’s most endangered cat with as little as 600 cats in Spain and 50 in Portugal. A hugh loss of Iberian Lynx (80%) is thought to have taken place between 1960 and 1990s. There are a number of factors that have threatened the survival of the Iberian Lynx including: a decrease in rabbits, habitat loss, human threat and population fragmentation. The Iberian Lynx is about half the size of the Eurasian Lynx and can be described as a heavy spotted cat with long legs and short tail tipped black. Description: The Iberian Lynx feeds mainly on rabbit, which makes up 80 percent of its diet. It also eats rodents, hares, ducks, geese and deer. The Iberian Lynx is a solitary animal and is primarily nocturnal with most of its hunting taking place at twilight.
