![]() Name: Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatis) – Large Cats Size: 39 kg to 65 kg (86-143 lbs) Distribution: The Cheetah once roamed Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia. Today this species can be mainly found in Africa with a small population in Iran. This is due to the large decline in numbers for reasons such as; loss of habitat, genetically inbreeding and illegal hunting. Description: An elegant body, long limbs, greyhound frame and spotted coat make the Cheetah one of the most beautiful wild cats living today. It is also the fastest mammal on land reaching speeds of over 60 miles an hour over short distances. The Cheetah will hunt alone or in a family pack. Lifespan: 12-14 years. Cubs have a poor survival rate as they are easy prey. |
