Name: African Golden Cat (Felis aurata)– Medium Cat

Distribution: The African Golden Cat inhabits moist forests in equatorial Africa. The primary threats to this breed are habitat destruction and reduction in antelope, which is its main prey. In addition, the African Golden Cat is hunted by tribesmen for its tail. The conservation status for the African Golden Cat is vulnerable.

Description: The African Golden Cat has 2 color variations, red and gray, with some being totally black. The spots on the Golden cat’s body can also vary, with some having spots all over and others having spots just on their bellies or neck and legs. Little is known about the African Golden Cat. Most information about the Golden Cat has been gained by observing them in captivity. The African Golden Cat is solitary and nocturnal, preying on small rodents, small antelope and birds.
