Domestic Breed

cyrmic

Name: Cymric (Long-Haired Breed)

Origin / History: The origin of the Cymric is uncertain. The name Cymric is derived from the gaelic word Wales, which suggest that it has a welsh ancestry. However, it could be from the Isle of Man, where its tailless cousin, the Manx, originated. In the 1960s, in North America, longhaired kittens began to appear in Manx litters. The breed was recognized in 1980, by the CFA and TICA, as a separate breed. However, this was later reclassified by the CFA as Longhaired Manx.

Characteristics: This breed is virtually identical to the Manx, with the exception of its double long-haired coat, which is plush and silky. The body is medium-sized, sturdy and well muscled. The legs are sturdy with the front legs shorter than the back legs. The head is rounded with prominent cheek bones and large round eyes. The tail can be seen in different forms, rumpy, stumpy and Longy. (The Rump tail is the only one accepted for showing).

Personality: The Cymric is a friendly and affectionate breed that gets on well with children, dogs and other cats. They are often referred to as dog-like wanting to learn new tricks. They are also skilled mousers and good survivors.
