Name: American Bobtail

Origin / History: No one quite knows where the bobtailed originated from. Despite its looks there is no evidence to link this breed with the lynx or wild bobcat. One theory of the origin of the American Bobtail goes back to the 1960’s when an American couple, from Iowa, adopted a brown spotted tabby kitten, with a short tail, from the America Indian Reservation in Arizona. Characteristics: A wild looking cat that is medium to large in size with a muscular body. The head can be described as broad-modified wedge-shaped with a heavy brow and oval eyes. The tail is short and should sit just above the hock. This breed can have medium, semi-dense shorthair and medium-length long-hair, which is resistant to water.

Personality: A kind, loving and intelligent breed that adopts well to almost any environment. The American Bobtail may be wary of strangers but once it gets to know them will make a devoted and loving pet. It is a playful breed that will play for hours on end. The Bobtail also gets along well with children and dogs.
